It Starts at Home

On April 1, 2017, I baked my first loaf of bread at home. It was strangely shaped, underproved, unevenly risen, and covered in flour (because, artisan bread!). But in all its imperfections, I saw some magic. Flour, water, salt and yeast came together into warm, crispy, home baked bread. I got hooked on that magic, read a few @kingarthurflour blog posts, and went on to bake a whole wheat loaf, ciabatta rolls, and my first ever batch of bagels in the days to follow. I figured I'd share a photo of that first bread project with you here today. There's just nothing like homebaked bread -- and the awesome truth is: anyone can do it! I started baking bread because my husband (a Swiss expat) and I (a North Jersey native) were living in San Francisco, and couldn’t find bread that tasted like our favorites from home. Who knew this would turn into a lifelong hobby, through which I would learn so much about the world, other bakers, and myself.
